Early Bird Rights

Its best for the league for players to switch teams from time to time. This is one less way for that to happen. We can mirror real life and the NBA all we want, but at the end of the day this is a SIM league. Its not real and if it was half of the people here wouldn't be active.

I'd have to say whether it comes in or not, I wouldn't want to see it this season because I probably don't move Beverley if that's the case and it would be rough to allow it after the fact because OP now has him.

I was told no when I asked about Beverley (prior to Dennis/Andrei).

Yeah, like said, it wont be discussed before next offseason and *IF* (IMO unlikely because until then all 2 year contracts are up anyway) introduced it wont happen before free agency 2016. We already have been aware that Beverly is one of those early bird year guys before several GMs informed us that it would be unfair to allow it because Denver/Memphis just finished a trade for an early bird player that *maybe* wouldnt have taken place if the rules would have been different.

Yeah even though it's really about Beverly, because every time OP proposes a rule change, it's to benefit him.

Ironic part is, because the clock resets for Early Bird Rights after trades, it wouldn't apply anyway.

Yep... this was the first thing I thought of now that he's traded for Beverly but brought up Millsap etc as the reasoning.

Not sure about the "benefits him part" though, definitely the Beverly part.

Also I hated the salary cap increase as that was unnecessary and used as a ploy to increase activity by giving teams more financial leeway, not with doing the Bird Rights change as of now... in the offseason maybe but not right now so I agree with jestor on this one.

Furthermore, Early Bird exceptions only qualify if they've spent two years playing for the same team, so when a player is traded, they lose their Early Bird Rights, even though a team keeps full Bird Rights. A player has the right to veto a trade that would cause them to lose their Early Bird rights (such as Devean George).

This would require a lot of hassle tracking it.

Is that true? I had no idea on that.

Yeah, that would be a bitch to track.

Like others have said, I'm surprised the game doesn't already have this feature.

Of course that wouldn't be fair. It would have to be done the next offseason or something if ever.

But the having to track it kills it IMO. I thought Early Birds was just the same as regular bird rights.
