Just another Idea..

Post by Dennis »

Hey Guys,

I just had another idea. Well, no idea if its a great one or its dumb... but what if we assign the GMless teams to active members who already have a team? They would have to be very careful with their decisions and it wouldnt be allowed to make trades between their teams, but this would help to prevent letting teams play injured player and could speed up the draft heavily... For example it seems the Bucks GM is inactive and it would suck to wait for him to make his pick if he wouldnt come online anyway. My idea would it be to assign active members like Andrei, GreenBear, Willy, Tanner etc. another team. Obviously they would have to give up the team as soon as a new GM joins and wants the team, but I believe it would be way more fun as there would be more trade partner for example.
Also I would do it anonymously. For example if the idea is great the commish will choose active GMs and assign them a team, afterwards the chosen GMs have to register a new account named like "Bot_Bucks" and will be named interims-GM with this "fakeaccount". Obviously they arent allowed to tell if they are managing another team.

Summary
  • assing open teams to already active GMs
  • Would speed up the draft and prevent 48minutes games by injured LeBrons
  • Do it anonymously
What do you think guys? Sorry for not asking a commish before!

i support this. it should be a team from another conference.

at minimum you can manage the depth chart.

would be cool to roll this out but you may get too attached to the team, no?

Not really a fan of a GM having two teams, I'd rather the league take care of the teams.

In fact, the simmer should sub out Kevin Love and Lowry from the OKC DC because otherwise the Spurs are gonna get a free win. There's no way they should be playing. And then Atlanta is gonna get a free playoff series against Miami, and that's not really fair either.

Hopefully that gets taken care of at some point...

I'd be happy to help with the depth charts for teams in the playoffs. That part could be fun, and seeing as how my team isn't in the playoffs, I'd be pretty unbiased. But I definitely wouldn't want to run another team's draft. My Suns have 3 first round draft picks, so I would definitely have to recuse myself from making draft picks for other teams. I think drafting for open teams should be left up to the Commissioners.

Could happen with someone who doesnt like his actual team. But if I would take care of another team I would always love my Celtics more. Though I would try to make only intelligent decisions for the second team.

Way too much work for the Commishs.. The free wins are one of the reasons why I proposed this.

Ive got one problem with commishs drafting.. Myles and Jace know everything about the class. They would always have to draft the BPA. Letting interim GMs draft allows the standins to look more at needs and on top more steals are possible as the GM drafting doesnt have perfect informations about all prospects. But you are right. You for example should take care of a team like Miami or OKC. And others like me or Andrei could step in for Milwaukee or New York.

Don't like this idea at all. League owned teams should be handled by administration, including drafting. Conflict of interest otherwise

GMless teams need to be managed by the league commish or alternative idea would be voluntary GMs who did not make the playoffs. Strictly for injury and strategy purposes

Any league-owned teams will be taken care of by the admins. It could just create too many potential issues otherwise. Playoff DC's included (though I forgot for the first sim, but I'll be taking care of the other teams.)

Well, we definitely need to find New GMs then. An offseason with ~10 open teams/semi active GMs will result in a 2 week draft and too much work during FA for the Armins. On Top there are actually only 6-7 possible trade Partner which really sucks.

Yeah I don't like the idea of teams doubling up. Let the simmers take care of removing injured players from the lineup.

there is a reason why Dennis suggested that - to compensate for lack of GMs in a good few teams

I think we need new GMs ASAP. The simmer, unfortunately, needs to keep the GM-less teams on track with injuries so that this doesn't happen. Don't love the idea of other GMs caretaking an open team.

Guys, any ideas? We have actually Utah, NY, Chicago, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Dallas, Denver and OKC pretty much open and plenty other inactive teams.. If we go into the offseason and no one (except commishs) take care of those teams we are in serious trouble. Anyone any ideas? Its pretty obvious there wont be 10 New joiner within the next week.

We've been toying with the idea of contraction. Going with a 25 team league. As far as I can tell, there are only two downsides: a few GMs would have to switch teams (but they would bring their roster with them, so it would really just be switching logos, divisions and conferences) and we would lose the stats/W-L records from this season. But everything else would stay the same, we'd have 5 fewer teams to account for, and we could have a cool contraction draft to re-distribute some of the players.

There will be a more formal post on this soon. Didn't want to take the CSL Finals out of the spotlight.

I like the idea of 25 teams, I think we would focus more so, I have no problem changing the team for the good of the league.

while I have no issues switching teams, that is another big change since oCSL in a short time period. I suspect it means starting from scratch again. Also, with DDS 4 being a few months away from release, the question whether we want to switch is an obvious one . that potentiolly means restarting for the 4th time... not sure how healthy it is for the league. just a few thoughts

Like I said, we'll have a more in depth and formal post on this after the finals, but just a quick note so no one takes this the wrong way -

Rosters are staying the same, we're not re-doing anything. All we would be doing is contracting a few teams and having a contraction draft. We're still going on with the rookie draft, keeping the same rosters and everything.

I agree with Dylan. Let's table these talks for a few days so the finals can get the attention it deserves.
