Blazers / Wizards Discussing Lillard-Wall Swap
With all the trade rumors surrounding both the Blazers and the Wizards, it's a little surprising that this news surprises us! Rumor around the mill has it that the Blazers brought up the idea of swapping Damian Lillard for John Wall, but currently the Wizards feel the price is too high. Also, they have stated multiple times that John Wall in a centerpiece in their future plans, which seem to barely be coming into fruition.
No word as to if negotiations are still going on. Last we heard the Wizards had minimal interest in pursuing the deal further however one must wonder, with Lillard's financial situation a small-bit more long term, as well as Lillard being the better outside shooter and being able to cause havoc on the foul-line. Did the possibility of this deal appeal even minimally to the Wizards front office.

This would be a silly trade for Washington imo. As good as Lilliard is, he's not in Wall's class.

Wall actually has better 3 point shot from the stats, and defensive ratings are far superior too (at work, so can't check defensive stats).
The only real advantage Lillard has is playoff statistics, and while that's a damned considerable one in this engine, it's also a bit of a gamble considering they were short series first round exits.

Umm.. sure.GreenBear wrote:This would be a silly trade for Washington imo. As good as Lilliard is, he's not in Wall's class.
Lillard has zero preference work done to him this season.
Furthermore, Lillard is a better jump shooter, scorer, ball handler, an on par passer, free throw shooter - all by ratings. Defensively, I don't have the advanced stats up to say definitively, but I'd imagine Wall is not exactly a lock-down defender right now.
Wall is also putting up a comparative statline in a decent amount of more minutes played than Lillard.
This is without considering the value that comes with Lillard's team control versus Wall's and age, etc.

Re: Blazers / Wizards Discussing Lillard-Wall Swap
...There's literally one year age difference between the two, and if you're going to call Lillard on par passer, well, Wall is on a par handler.
Wall passing - 85
Wall handling - 73
Lillard passing - 80
Lillard handling - 75
Passing - +5 Wall
Handling - +2 Lillard
And that's without getting into the +16 DRWFL difference between Wall and Lillard, which negates the +8 FT difference between the two,, particularly since Wall is fine at 72.
Just quit trying to bullshit, man. It's embarrassing.

Wall is just way better.. I mean John was carrying Washington to the playoffs on his own. Damian can't even do it with LMA on his team. Let's be honest. Lillard can put up stats but (given Portland is not tanking) can't win you any games.

That's a good point right there as well. Wall has already shown that he can lead this developmental year for us.Dennis wrote:Wall is just way better.. Bullshitting? Your argument is essentially saying that volume>efficiency. How stupid does that sound?
Despite the significant difference in DRWFL rating, Lillard and Wall both get to the line 6 times a game, and Wall is playing 6 more minutes a game roughly.

Re: Blazers / Wizards Discussing Lillard-Wall Swap
I was calling you out on your BSing of the ratings. Didn't say a word about stats because A) I haven't looked at them and B) they're roster and strategy dependent. For example, Jimmer was averaging a full steal per game as a starter as a result of the high pressure defense we run, so that stat's artificially inflated by that. And how DeMar has three 30+ point games in his first five with us because of the scoring rating disparity between him and everyone else on the roster (since I cut Jokic's minutes after starting Lopez, and made Green a deep bench option).

I was just expressing a simple opinion, but since you want to make a big stink about it, I'll go into exactly how I formulated this opinion.lakeshowak7 wrote:Umm.. sure.GreenBear wrote:This would be a silly trade for Washington imo. As good as Lilliard is, he's not in Wall's class.

I also don't have the advanced stats in front of me, so I can't comment on PA/SF, STP%, or the breakdown of shooting (FGI/FGJ/FG3). I'll keep it to ratings and stats:
Lilliard has a +2 advantage in SCR and HDL and that is it. Wall has +5 PAS, +7 ORB, +5 DRB, +18 DEF, +9 BLK, +12 STL, +16 DRFL, +11 DI, and +10 IQ. As for shooting, again, I can't look at the breakdown of the shots, but Wall is shooting better than Lilliard overall and from deep this year, and it doesn't look to be a fluke from looking at past stats. As for the FT shooting, Wall is actually shooting better this year. Maybe it will drop like 3%, but it's not far off his career average.
Lilliard is a great offensive PG, but he is lacking behind Wall by a lot in the rest of his game. Wall is a much better defender and he's a better rebounder. He's smarter and better at staying on the court.
